Motion sensors are a great way to save money. Connecting motion sensors to smart LED lights mean that you can tell the lights to switch off when no one is in the room.

I purchased some smart globes and have never looked back. O my god, controlling them is so easy! Lie in my bed, take my phone, go to my smart lighting app, click, they are on or off, and I can dim them as well.

When smart lights started, adjusting the RGB colour was not an option. However now lots of smart lights have hat option, and it is a great little extra for improving mood, during winter etc.

One thing you have to remember, and I think it is important to point it out, is that smart lights are a lot more complicated than normal lights. To turn a normal light on or off, you only need to hit the switch on the wall. For a smart light, you need to first connect it to your app. Then every time you need to switch it you need to get your phone, turn on the app, find the light on the app, and then click the app. It is definitely NOT straightforward.

Smart lights now have the option of: - On or off - Dimming / brightness - Colour - Overall mood settings - Schedules So they are extremely handy.

A lot of people ask why I need a light globe that changes colour? Fair question, but lights are supposed to make your life easier, convenient, comfortable and more exciting. They bring features into your home (like dimming, schedule, remoteness etc) that you did not even know you missed.

Do smart light bulbs produce radiation? Someone recently told me that smart lights emit unusual radiation.

They do not produce any unusual radiation, the person who told you that was dumb.

Actually, smart lights do produce unusual radiation that normal does do not - wifi radiation. But that is not in any way dangerous to people.

Smart lights produce electromagnetic radiation in the visible range (ie light), a tiny amount of UV radiation, and some transmit wifi (though mostly their just receive it).

Firstly, you can control all your lights from one device without leaving the couch. Secondly, you can control them even outside your house. Thirdly, you can schedule lights to go and off, so you can save a lot of money - this can be a huge saving in an office for example.

Smart lights need to receive wifi commands when they are off, so they do consume some electricity when they are off. However, the electricity consumption is vastly lower in that state as no light is being emitted.

Smart lights are always on (even they look off) because they communicate with your wifi devices, and need to be able to switch their lights on and off by remote commands. So yes they are using a bit of electricity when their light is off.

When a smart light is off, it is called "standby mode". Its light globe is off, but it is still receiving instruction from your devices so yes it is consuming electricity, albeit a very small amount compared to when it is on.

The lights themselves are not more efficient. In fact a smart light will consume slightly more power than it non-smart identical equivalent, because it needs to feed its WiFi sensor as well. That said, however, they are more efficient overall because they be controlled (in a smart way 😀 ) to turn on and off without having to remember. For example, you can make set the smart light to automatically turn off in the day.

If you are comparing smart lights (which are all LED) to non-LED lights, then they are definitely more efficient.

Smart lighting enables you to set them to turn off when nobody is home, so that is much more efficient. Also, smart lights are dimmable and this also reduces the electricity use, which increases their efficiency.

One way they are more efficient is that they can be turned on and off remotely, when you are away from home. So if you forgot to turn them off, you can look in your iphone and check, and if they are on then you can turn them off.

The cheapest smart home lighting system is to keep your existing lights, and simply replace all the globes with smart globes.

The other thing is to replace your light switches and dimmers with smart switches. This is also a very inexpensive way of doing it.

Smart light switches (and dimmers) are exactly the same as your old fashioned wall switches, except they can be managed remotely by a smart app (for example through your phone). So you could switch on your lights while sitting in the local cinema, or set a schedule which turns the lights on and off while you are on vacation.

Because a single smart switch can control multiple globes, it is probably cheaper to get the switch. However with smart globes you can change brightness and some even change colour, and schedule them to specific brightnesses. So overall I would say light bulbs.

Neither is better - they have different capabilities and you need to choose depending upon what you need and want.

Switches are more economical and simpler. However individual smart light bulbs give you much more control.

Smart light bulbs are controlled by some device, and have a huge number of differences. For example if the device is your phone, then you can automatically activate the smart lights when you get near your home, by the transmission of your GPS location.

Smart light bulbs not only can be dimmed without a dimmer, but the high grade ones can also change their colour. The device controlling him will have a colour wheel and you just need to set it.

There is no such thing as 'best' it all depends on your needs. Some people just want to be able to remotely switch their lights on and off via their smart phone, so a fairly simple system is the best. On the other hand, other people want dimming, switching, colour changing, connection with Alexa and Google home, dawn and dusk simulation etc - so they need a seriously sophisticated system.

Yes because it is a well known things that waking up, or coming home, to darkness causes depression. Smart lights can be scheduled so that they simulate the sun - so you can wake up to a fake dawn and come home to a fake dusk - which definitely helps with depression.

Most smart light bulbs only having dimming capability but there are lots on the market that can have their colour changed as well. They are more expensive.
