I have noticed that an LED can illuminate in a different colour - how does it do that?

A single LED is actually composed of 3 LED light lights called RGB (red / green / blue). They can be illuminated together and by changing the brightness of the 2 lights you can form any colour.

An LED has 3 chips - RGB (red, green, blue) - and a microcontroller. The microcontroller sets the power to each of the chips, which impacts the overall colour.
For example, high power red, zero power green, zero power blue will give you bright red. On the other hand medium red, medium green and medium blue will give you grey.
