Consider putting together the same lights but different sizes, eg a small pendant and a large pendant - identical other than size. Can look stunning and very well thought out.

Make sure that the lights don't point directly in people's eyes and are not too bright.

Put lights behind furniture pieces ... cam ne very original and produce a nice effect!

Always avoid oyster lights. They are boring and ugly, IMHO.

All lighting professionals we spoke to said: use dimmers everywhere, particularly where you will be entertaining guests.
