Definitely avoid fluorescent lights. Any new lights should be LED.

Workplace lights should have cool white or daylight white colour temperature, to keep the workers focused and alert. Never use warm white.

Workplace lighting guidelines summary:

- Ensure there is emergency lights

- Ensure all exits have clear lights marking them

- No light should be a risk to heath and safety

- Adjacent areas should have approximately same lighting levels

- Avoid overt shadows

- Avoid glare

- Avoid lighting distractions and overt reflections

- Avoid flickering and stroboscopic impacts

- Different colours should be obvious if they impact safety

- Make sure that all tasks should be sufficiently illuminated

- Hazards should be lit sufficiently to reduce their risk
