A very simple but critical issue around office lighting is colour temperature: should always be cool white or daylight white, never warm white.

Using cool white lighting in offices increases productivity and alertness.

Make sure in offices:

- You use cool white lights

- Ensure the lights are neither too bright nor too dim

- Be aware and avoid too much reflected lights eg from huge windows

- Avoid shadow pools

- Adjacent lights should be about the same brightness

I have worked in offices where the lighting was extremely harsh, and this killed my efficiency.

Give workers "time out" rooms with warm lighting (eg in lunch rooms etc) so they can relax before going back to work.

Help your workers out with lighting by giving each of them a desk lamp, particularly if they are pouring over paper documents.

Also be aware of harsh lights from monitors - make sure the monitors are good quality ones.

Yes, the desk!
Many office desks have a highly reflective surface which can have quite a distracting effect and reduce efficiency.
