Wouls appreciate any ideas on floor lamps. I have been recommended to use these in my home by a couple of interior designer but my knowledge on these is low.
I strongly recommend them! They do not need installation so are almost the cheapest form of new lights you can put in. Plus they take very little space.
I like to put them in corners of rooms, ideally two diagonals.
There are some extremely chic floor lamps out there ... some so nice that they become room features in their own right.
I think they are the perfect light! They provide layering, soft diffuse lights, are cheap, can be put anywhere in a room, and are tall enough to illuminate an entire room.
Agree they are perfect in that if you need more lighting and don't want to pay for an electrician (eg because of the cost or because you are renting and can't change the lights) then get these.
Floor lamps are quite bright also because they shine downwards so you get a lot of reflective light off the floor. This can make for some very interesting effects.
You can also get floor lamps with shades - they shine both up and down, and of course provide some diffuse lights through the shade itself.
Floor lamps are great because they do not take up much space.
