Are LED lights better than fluorescent for commercial purposes, and if so, how?

Compared to LED lights, fluorescent lights:
- Have a shorter lifespan
- They degrade (flicker, turn pink, take longer to start discharging etc)
- They consume more energy

About 15% of the fluorescent light's energy is used up in heat so they are much less efficient.

Fluorescent lights are multidirectional so they emit light in all directions, which means they are very inefficient

Also fluorescent lights emit a small amount of UV radiation which is not dangerous in that quantity, but it is not good either - and can impact delicate paintings.

An LED light can last as long as 100,000 best case whereas fluorescent lights will last best case 15,000 hours.
